Create your relief step by step: the complete configurator guide

Create your relief step by step: the complete configurator guide

Creating an Epic Trace relief takes only a few steps.

This guide covers them one by one, from the first time you open the configurator to placing your order.

You can follow it from start to finish, or jump directly to the step you are interested in.

Before you begin

The configurator works directly in your browser, on both computer and mobile.

A GPX trace is optional: you can create a relief of a place that means a lot to you, with or without a route on it.

To open the tool, go to the Create my relief page.

Step 1 — Choosing the area

It all starts with choosing the location.

Search for a place—a town, a summit, an address—or move freely around the map.

A frame defines the area that will become your relief. Move this frame to position it, and pull a corner to enlarge or shrink it.

This framing determines what will be visible on the final piece. Our dedicated guide explains how to choose the framing for a topographic relief.

Step 2 — Adding a trace (optional)

If you want to include a route on your relief, you have several options.

Importing a trace file

Click on "Import a trace," or drag and drop your file into the window. GPX, FIT, and TCX formats are accepted as is, as well as the ZIP file from a "Garmin Connect original export." You can add up to three traces on the same relief.

To retrieve your files, consult our export guides from Strava, Garmin Connect, Komoot, or other GPS watches.

Importing from Strava

If you use Strava, you can connect your account and choose an activity directly from the list, without needing a file.

Merging multiple traces

Do you have more than three files, or an outing recorded in several segments? Our GPX trace merger tool combines your files into a single trace, which you can then send directly to the configurator.

Step 3 — Generating the model

Once the area is chosen (and any traces added), start the model generation.

The configurator then builds a three-dimensional preview of the terrain, with your traces laid on top.

You can rotate the view and zoom in to observe the relief from every angle.

This preview is intentionally simple: your printed piece will be finer and more realistic than the rendering on screen.

Step 4 — Choosing the front side

A square relief doesn't inherently say which side should be at the front.

Therefore, specify the front side—North, East, South, or West—the one that will face you once the piece is placed.

This choice is necessary before saving: it determines the orientation of the creation.

Just below, two lines allow you to adjust the colors. Relief: light gray or dark gray. Line: one color per trace, with six colors to choose from—red, green, blue, black, white, and yellow. The change is displayed immediately on the model, without needing to regenerate anything.

Step 5 — Customizing the base (optional)

The relief is mounted on a solid oak base, which can be laser-engraved.

From the preview, open "Customize the base" to enter up to two lines of text and choose a font style.

You can add the name of a race, a date, a distance, an elevation gain, or simply a few words that matter to you.

The preview is for reference: you will confirm or remove the engraving at the time of ordering.

Step 6 — Validating the model

When you are happy with the result, click "Validate the model."

This is the final step before ordering.

Step 7 — Saving your project

To save your creation, an account is required.

If you are not yet logged in, a login window will appear. Once logged in, saving will resume automatically.

Give your project a name, then save it.

Your model is now saved. You can find it at any time in your "My Projects" area, and select it when you place your order.

Step 8 — Ordering in the shop

From the confirmation screen, go to the shop.

On the product page, select the model you just saved, choose your format, confirm the engraving if applicable, and add the creation to your cart.

All that remains is to finalize the order. Each piece is then made on demand.

Any doubts along the way?

You can return to any step at any time: modify the framing, add or remove a trace, or regenerate the model.

Nothing is final until you have placed your order.
